Chief Coach Tom John has been associated with leading badminton initiatives in England, Portugal, Brunei, Italy, Spain and France. He was the coach of the England national team for more than seven years. In India he was on the panel of coaches for the Indian national junior team and has also been associated with the Padukone and Gopichand Academies.
Tom John has been involved in badminton coaching for last 30 years in UK and European countries. Electronic Engineer by profession with British telecom, Badminton was his real passion. He started his first centre at Wimbledon Badminton & squash club, where he coached many young players who could not afford high coaching fees prevailing at that time in Europe. Players from all over England made their base over there which then became unofficially the national centre. Players like Prakash Padukone, Vimal Kumar, Aparna Popat and other top Indian players used this centre as their training base while they were in Europe. The players from all over the world especially from Newzealand, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore used the facility as they had quality players to spar.
In the mid eighties, Morten who won four All England Championship in eight finals he played, moved to London and he was training at Wimbledon badminton & Squash club under Tom John till his retirement.
In the late Eighties, Tom John became the English National Coach and Coach for Under 21 squad. He was the Olympics Singles Coach for the English team for Barcelona, Atlanta & Sydney Olympics.
Tom John was instrumental in developing Badminton in Portugal, Italy & France. He was linked with Racing club De Paris and worked in many cities in Normandy region.
In the Ninties, Tom moved to the new English national centre at Milton Keynes where he was the English Singles coach for Men & Women’s team.
2001 : Tom John helped Gopichand to win the All England Championship. Gopichand then trained in the national centre for six months. Tom resigned to become Gopichand’s personal coach and unfortunately Gopichand decided to quit competitive badminton and decided to start the Academy and requested Tom John to become the Chief Coach. There Tom John was instrumental in developing many young players like Siana, Kashyap, Guru etc.
2003-04 : Tom John was invited by Sultan of Brunai to come as the National coach for two years.
2006 & 2007 : Back in England as the National coach. All the Ladies singles national champions and six men’s national champions and three European champions players since 1980 was trained under Tom John Tom John was Head coach at London centre of excellence for 2012 Olympics where he was working with Rajeev Ouseph, Amir Ghaffar and all the top players.
2008 : Came to India to become Anup Sridhar’s personal coach at Prakash Padukone academy for Beijing Olympic
2009-11 : Got invitation from badminton association of Portugal as National coach for Portugal team.
2011-12 : Chief Coach for UP Badminton Association at Lucknow, where he was in the panel of coaches for Junior National team which won the Bronze medal.
Acting on the shared vision of Tom John, entrepreneur Thomas J.Kunnath and leading international player Anup Sridhar to develop players of world calibre, the Tom’s Badminton Academy has become a reality with a focus on using international coaching techniques and in the process contribute to make India a global force in world badminton.
Starting with the present bunch of international players who have been working with him for the past couple of years, Tom John wants to create an impact in the badminton world with his modern methods of coaching. Tom John is confident of getting results from his wards as they are totally committed to the academy’s vision and their personal goals.
The director is a combination of an engineer and a sports person coming from a business family who are in the field of Textiles and Paper for over a century.
A successful business man, runs an industrial plastic components manufacturing company for the past 25 years which was rated in the top three in south-India. Thomas has vast experience in organising state and national level ranking tournaments and Inter-club tournaments for the last 30 years. Thomas has organised many long term coaching camps which produced national and state players.
Headed the gala Karnataka Badminton League as Chairman, which was an eye opener for all the associations in the country. Consultant for Tamilnadu Badminton League.
Dr.Richa Singh, Physiotherapist trerated many players for diffrent types of problems with aparticuler intresrt in orthopedic and neurological cases.
Dr.Richa also handeled many cases of muscle injury and other types sports injury.
