  • Develop ten players in India Top 10 rankings in singles and doubles by Dec 2020

METHOD

Identify players of exceptional talent and dedication from all over the country:-

Academy is planning to train 15 players in the first year. The selection process is purely depending on the past performance of the players. The player’s dedication, commitment and attitude will play a major role in the selection process.

Personal interviews with every player and the parents will be conducted in presence of the Chief Coach, Tom John. Selection panel will then decide.

Deploy latest coaching techniques of Asia and Europe:-

Chief Coach Tom John has vast experience in working with many greats in the field of Badminton both in Asia & Europe. He will be utilising all those skills in coaching the players.

The Chief Coach also believes in watching the videos of most of the players in the circuit and adapt whatever is best for his players. The Chief Coach will also travel along with the players to various countries and interact with fellow coaches to implement latest techniques.

Personalized training in both physical and mental aspects:-

The academy will be associating with reputed physiotherapists and psychologists. Players will consult these professionals on a regular basis to improve their performance. The academy will also be arranging specialized clinics conducted by top specialists in areas such as “how to avoid injuries”, “peak performance analysis” etc.

Establish contracts and adequate financial remuneration for players:-

We are working with sponsors for general sponsorship for the academy and personal sponsorship/contracts for players. Top players have already got financial contracts and tournament travel contracts. The remaining players will be getting tournament travel contracts through the sponsors.

Academy has planned performance oriented cash awards for the players. Each player has been given individual performance targets and on achieving that will be rewarded accordingly.

Ensure international exposure for players:-

At the beginning of the season, players will plan their tournament schedule with the Chief Coach and will draw out their individual tournament calendar. Academy will then discuss the tournament calendar with the parents and will endeavour to find sponsors to support.

EXTEND THE ACADEMY TO THREE CENTRES WITH STATE OF THE ART FACILITIES:-

Over a three years period the Academy has planned to have three centres in the country one of which will be an owned facility.

Current coaching scenario in the country and positioning of Tom’s Academy

In India, although there are hundreds of badminton coaching centres, only few of them are run on a professional basis. Presently, there is no world-class facility in India for top ranked players apart from the national centre run by Gopichand in Hyderabad. Tom’s Badminton Academy is poised to fill this void and many leading professional players have already joined the academy. The Academy will have the services of International coach Tom John from England whose credentials are presented elsewhere in this report.

Implementation timelines

Tom’s Badminton Academy has been registered and started its operation from 1st of April 2012. Top players with world and national ranking are working with the chief coach and individual targets have been assigned, which is detailed elsewhere in this report.
